Mastering the Perfect Cup of Coffee at home: From Bean to Cup
A question often asked of us is - Which DANE coffee do we recommend?
It's a question with no single answer and perhaps that's the point. Admittedly, we are biased because all our coffees are, in our view, entirely indulgent, but we know that coffee means something different to everyone. Like so many of the joys of life, coffee is best enjoyed your way, whether that's a precise espresso or a long, leisurely pour – each one its own small ritual.
This journal entry was written with our community in mind - who know exactly how they like their coffee, whether it's brewed through an espresso machine or steeped in a French press. Alongside that, we're celebrating each of our signature coffees: their distinct flavour notes and quiet characteristics - the seemingly small things in life that often go unnoticed but once noted, have a remarkable way of grounding you in the now.
Read on for our recommended brew methods, but before we begin, a note on an important first step. Great coffee starts with freshly roasted, quality coffee. We always recommend using freshly roasted whole beans and grinding them yourself just before brewing. It's a small step that makes a remarkable difference to the aroma and flavour in your cup – the foundation of every great DANE coffee.
For those who enjoy coffee as a shot of espresso, Euphoria (Arabica coffee beans) or Ascend (traditional espresso with a kick courtesy of Robusta - Robusta coffee beans are naturally higher in caffeine per gram giving that extra boost). Brew in an espresso machine dialled in to just your desired settings and you’re off to a coffee-induced energy spike to get you into beta brain waves and ready to take on the day!
For the adventurers wanting to taste other intriguing DANE personalities carefully blended to enhance the various origins of our perfect blends; and if time is a luxury and an espresso coffee machine is at the ready - Velour is a treat with its medium-dark roast, milk chocolate and honey notes - what more could you want whilst sipping your coffee enjoying a moment to yourself? Aurum will transport you back to your childhood trying to remove the remnants of sticky toffee from your teeth - with delicate flavours reminiscent of caramelised sugar and butter.
Single Origin coffee are spectacular in flavour and unique in origin – a true reflection of the exclusive, family-run farms from which the coffee beans are carefully sourced. Our recommendation is to brew single origin coffee more traditionally - how our ancestors would brew and enjoy coffee. Think, French Press (cafetière) and moka pot. Indonesia and Nicaragua encapsulate rich and full-bodied flavours with their dark and medium-dark roast respectively delicately wrapped in hits of the finest couverture chocolate for a natural dopamine surge. Traditional brew methods beautifully respect the natural flavours of the roasted coffee cherry which are gently infused for the ultimate flavour sensation.
For the thrill seekers and explorers keen on a more acidic twist to their coffee - Kenya Zawadi (select coffee from Kenya with an interesting story - for another journal entry!) promises to dance on long after the main event! And of course, Latin America with its bright acidity, sweet maple-syrup and rich praline finish will make you sing Spanish before you even learnt to speak!
